  Description
St. Pius X is a Catholic, co-educational Pre-Kindergarten 3 thru 7th grade school that offers a comprehensive, challenging curriculum in a loving, faith- filled environment.  Nestled among the oaks and pines in Lake Vista, St. Pius X is big enough to prepare today's student for tomorrow's challenges and small enough, to offer students the personalized attention they need and deserve. All students have specialized instruction in the areas of religion, art, music, library, computer, physical education and Spanish.  St. Pius X strives to empower each student with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to achieve academic excellence.

Statement of Policy
St. Pius X Catholic School, under the auspices of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, admits qualified students of any color, race, nationality, and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students.

School Mission Statement
In partnership with parents, St. Pius X Catholic School strives to empower each student with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to achieve academic excellence, high standards of morality, and the values of Catholic faith.  Through our words, actions, and deeds, we encourage the St. Pius X family "to renew all things in Christ."

Faculty
The dedicated faculty members have BA or BS degrees from accredited universities.  Some have their Master's degrees.  The faculty has an average of tweleve years of experience in Catholic school education.

Accreditation
St. Pius X School is a fully accredited elementary school by the Louisiana State Department of Education. 
In 2006, St. Pius X received national accreditation by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. 
St. Pius X was named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, No Child Left Behind by the United States Department of Education in 2007, the only school in Orleans Parish and one of three in Louisiana.
St. Pius X Catholic School is a member of the National Catholic Educational Association.

School Year
The school year is divided into four quarters.  The school day begins at 8:10 a.m. and ends at 3:20 p.m. except on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.  On these days, the school is dismissed at 2:30 p.m. for faculty meetings and/or Continuing Education.

Curriculum
St. Pius X offers a self-contained curriculum for Pre-Kindergarten 3 thru 4th grades emphasizing multi-sensory and cross-curricula approach. The Middle School consists of grades 5-7 and is departmentalized with accelerated courses offered in math and reading. All students are able to explore their talents, both academically and socially, through art, music, library, computer, P.E. and Spanish. Title 1 (Catapult Learning) and Title III (Speech) are available to students through Orleans Parish.  Religion instruction, weekly Mass, daily prayers and the teaching of Christian values nourish the spiritual development of our students.

Technology
St. Pius X is equipped with three computer labs.  Each classroom is equipped with computers, an Interactive Whiteboard, projector, and Visual Presenter. The science lab is technology based with computers, graphing calculators and CBL probes. This technology and its access, provides students with a creative and innovative approach in various research and core curriculum projects.  By integrating technology in the teaching process to provide a multi-media approach, the needs of the varied types of learners are being addressed.

Community Service
Community Service is emphasized as an integral part of Christian service to the community. Helping Hands, our middle school service club, received the Most Outstanding Community Service Award in Orleans Parish from the Brown Foundation.  Last year, Covenant House and Lakeview Shepherd Center were their major projects.

After-School Care
For an additional fee, the school provides After-School Care services for students until 6:00 p.m. A registration fee of $20.00 per student is required, and an application form must be completed.

Before-School Care
There is no Before-School Care available.  Teachers begin morning duty at 7:45 a.m.

Transportation
There is no school bus service available.

Tuition and Fees: 2010-11 
Tuition for Pre-Kindergarten 3 and 4 (full-day)

         $5,150.00 for each student who is a supporting family of St. Pius X Parish

         $5,150.00 for each student who is Catholic, plus a non-support fee

         $5,400.00 for non-Catholic students 

Tuition for Grades Kindergarten - 7th

         $4,550.00 for each student who is a supporting family of St. Pius X Parish

         $4,550.00 for each student who is Catholic, plus a non-support fee

         $5,000.00 for non-Catholic students

         A reduced rate is given when a family has two or more students 

Fees for Grades Pre-Kindergarten - 7th

         $150.00 non-refundable registration fee

          $15.00 fee for each family for the Clarion Herald
-
         $300.00 non-support fee for each student who is not registered, active, and supporting family of St. Pius X Parish

Tuition Assistance
Assistance with tuition financing is available through First Bank and Trust.

Admission Procedure
Open House is in January each year.  

If you are unable to attend our Open House, please call the school at 504.282.2811 to schedule a private tour during school hours.

A complete application is due Friday, February 3, 2012 – documents needed:

-Completed application -Copy of birth certificate
-Copy of Catholic Baptismal certificate -Copy of social security card
-Transcripts -Standardized test scores
-Immunizations records  -Third Party Release Form
-Letter to Church Pastor if family lives outside St. Pius parish or is non-Catholic
-Student and parent interview

                                  

The final decision regarding enrollment will be left to the discretion of the pastor and principal.  The Admission Committee will notify families beginning the last week of March 2011.  Criteria in admission include:

  1. Children of registered and supporting parishioners; siblings of currently enrolled students; children of alumni will be given priority

  2. Children of Catholic non-parishioners (baptismal certificate required)

  3. Non-Catholic children

  • Enrollment/Registration Week is April 10, 2012 – April 13, 2012

  • Tuition paid by check is due April 23, 2012

  • Bank Loans for tuition at First Bank and Trust must be completed by May 3, 2012

Philosophy
Acknowledging that God is the center of all being, St. Pius X School is dedicated to a philosophy that is rich in Catholic beliefs and values. In cooperation with parents, the school strives to instill in students strong religious, moral, and social values for living by fostering a love of God and neighbor, a love of learning, a respect for virtue, the ability to think constructively, to reason independently, to accept responsibility, and to recognize the needs of others through Christian service. Hence, the faculty and staff of St. Pius X School endeavor to foster the development of the spiritual, intellectual, physical, cultural, and social behavior of the students. To achieve these goals, St. Pius X School strives to provide the students the atmosphere and materials conducive toward the realization of their potential while recognizing the need for service to others. A well-rounded religious program affords students and faculty active development as Christians. Spiritual growth is nurtured especially by participating in daily prayer, in weekly liturgies, and in the sacraments of the church. St. Pius X strives to assist through example and guidance in the formation of productive and patriotic citizens in a Safe Drug-Free Catholic academic environment.
