
This information is provided by the St. Pius X Mothers' Club to help explain some of the activities listed in the school calendar. All activities and dates are subject to change. The final decision regarding all activities is left to the discretion of the administration.
2-Liter Tuesday Prior to the Halloween Festival and the St. Pius X Fair, 2-Liter Tuesdays are held to collect 2-liter drinks to be used at these and other school events. Each class is assigned a specific type of 2-liter drink, which will be noted in a flier sent home in the students' folders. Each child sends in one, specified 2-liter drink on each 2-Liter Tuesday.
All Saints' Day Mass Kindergarten students plan and participate in this school Mass dressed as their patron saint.
Back to School Coffee Parents are invited to attend a social in the Multi-Purpose Room with coffee and pasteries. Information on the Mothers' & Men's Club is available.
Back to School Night (Parents' Open House) The meeting is held in the Father A.T. Screen Gym due to larger attendance. The Pastor and the Principal speak and introduce the teachers. After the meeting, parents visit their child's teacher in their homeroom.
Back to School Party Back to school social for parents sponsored by the Mothers' and Men's Clubs. Admission and drink will be provided, food will be available to purchase separately.
Balloon Day / Bubble Day This is the last day of school at St. Pius X for the seventh grade students. Balloons are provided by the Student Council and given to the 7th graders. Balloons are released into the air at the end of the day while the rest of the students blow bubbles brought from home.
Blessing of the Animals In recognition of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, parishioners are invited to bring their pets to the school yard for a blessing.
Blessing of the Children Blessing of the Children is planned by the Pre-K classes and all children are invited to church for a special celebration. Following the blessing, a reception is hosted by the Mothers' Club in the Multi-Purpose Room.
Book Fair A book sale is held in the Multi-Purpose Room. Students are assigned shopping times and parents are encouraged to shop with their children. Teachers post "wish lists" at the Book Fair of books they would like to have for their classrooms.
Catechetical Sunday Catechetical Sunday recognizes all those involved in teaching religion in St. Pius X Parish. A ceremony is held at the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass. The Mothers' Club hosts a reception following the Mass in the Multi-Purpose Room.
Christmas Shirt Day Students may wear a Christmas decorated shirt with uniform pants/skirt.
Christmas Twinning Program Children in grades 5th - 7th (oldest or only students) send in $5.00 for an "adopted family". Grades PK - 4th (oldest or only) are asked to bring in one wrapped gift with a tag identifying the gift and age appropriateness. The cost of the gift is optional. These gifts are delivered to families in the Archdiocese.
Confetti Eggs Confetti eggs are sold at the St. Pius X Fair. Cleaned eggshells are due a few weeks before the fair. To prepare the eggs, make a hole in the top of the egg (approx. the size of a nickel) and rinse well. Send two cartons of eggs for each child.
Country Store Day Country Store Day is used to collect items to be sold at the Country Store booth at the St. Pius X Fair. A flier is sent home listing what (food, cleaning supplies, etc.) the students in each class are to bring to school.
Family Sunday A celebration of the family sponsored by our parish. Families from the Parish are asked to bring up the offertory gifts at the Masses.
Fair Volunteers' Party A crawfish boil is held at school for all adult fair workers in appreciation for their time and commitment. Music and food are provided.
Field Day Students compete in sports activities. Competition includes individual and team events with ribbons awarded. Each class wears matching T-shirts (order forms for the T-shirts are sent home in the students' folders). The lower school's activities are held at St. Pius X and the middle school's acitivities are held at Metairie Playground.
First Communion 2nd grade students and CCD students receive their First Communion. A reception follows in the Multi-Purpose Room hosted by the Mothers' Club.
Fish Fry The Mothers' Club and Men's Club team-up to offer an affordable fish fry during the Lenten season. Dine-ins or take-outs are available. This is usually held in the SPX Cafeteria.
Grandparents' Day Mass Grandparents are invited to attend Mass with the students. With their class, the children usually make something special for their grandparents and give them a tour of their classroom. A flier is sent home in the students' folders with details of the event.
Halloween Shirt Day Students may wear a decorated Halloween shirt with uniform pants/skirt and shoes or an appropriate Halloween costume.
Halloween Festival Halloween Festival (sponsored by the Mothers' Club) is a fun night of games, food and a haunted house (sponsored by the Men's Club) held on school grounds. Donations are encouraged for the Cake Walk, Parade of Prizes booth, and the Sweet Tooth booth. Parents volunteer to work the booths.
Kindergarten Program This program is held at the end of the school year. Students should wear nice church clothes. This is the last day of school for Kindergarten and Pre-K. The Mothers' Club hosts a reception.
Last Supper In preparation for receiving the Sacrament of First Communion, the 2nd grade and CCD students participate in a prayer service and re-enact the Last Supper. This event is organized by the 2nd grade room mothers.
Living Rosary The Living Rosary is held at school with the students lined up in the shape of a rosary. Student representatives from each class lead the prayers of the rosary. Parents are welcome to attend and participate.
Magazine Fundraiser Students receive a brochure for Computers for Education Magazine Fundraiser. The fundraising profits help to upgrade our computers. Prizes are awarded for paid magazine subscriptions.
Mardi Gras Shirt/Costume Day Students may wear a Mardi Gras shirt or costume to school instead of their uniform shirt with uniform pants/skirt and shoes.
Mardi Gras Parade A Mardi Gras parade is held on the school grounds. Sponsored by the Mothers' Club, students submit their name for a drawing to participate in the Royal Court. 2nd - 4th grade students parade and throw beads while other students are spectators along with the parents.
May Crowning and Mothers' Day Mass Students bring flowers to school to be placed on the altar before Mass to honor Mary. The first grade and their mothers participate in this Mass.
Men's Club Christmas Tree Lighting The Men's Club Christmas Tree Lighting includes a performance of the story of the first Christmas by the seventh grade students and caroling in front of the SPX Church. Refreshments are served afterward in the Multi-Purpose Rroom.
Middle School Open House Held in the cafeteria for all 3rd and 4th grade parents, this evening begins with an overview of the Middle School Program followed by a departmentalized discussion with the teachers.
Mothers' Club Christmas Luncheon Members of the Mothers' Club, their families and friends are invited to this Christmas Brunch. Also, chances will be sold for a fabulous Parade of Prizes. A flier is sent home with a form to purchase tickets.
Mothers' Club Meetings Meetings are held during the school year, usually on Wednesday evenings. The principal reviews upcoming events, officers give committee reports and there is a guest speaker. Refreshments are served. Members who attend all meetings are eligible for a drawing at the last meeting for a $600 tuition credit.
Mothers' Club Meeting (Eat and Meet) The March Mothers' Club Meeting is potluck. Everyone brings a favorite dish to share. Nominations for next years officers are selected at this meeting.
Mothers' Club Installation Luncheon The outgoing Executive Board Members of the Mothers' Club welcome the new Executive Board at the spring luncheon.
New Members Tea The Mothers' Club hosts a tea for its new members to give them an opportunity to meet and get acquainted with other St. Pius X mothers.
School Masses School Masses are typically held two or three times a month, usually on Thursday, at 9:00 a.m. Each grade plans a Mass including selecting a theme, picking songs and acting out the gospel. The grade planning the Mass is shown in parentheses on the school calendar. Parents are always welcome.
Parent-Teacher Conferences These Conferences are held twice a year. The teachers schedule conference times with the parents and students, fliers are sent home in the students' folders.
Pilgrim/Indian Dress Day In preparation for Thanksgiving, students may come to school dressed as a Pilgrim or an Indian. Goods are collected for Thanksgiving baskets to be distributed to the needy. Details are provided in a flier sent home in the students' folders.
Project Charlie Project Charlie, which stands for "CHemical Abuse Resolution Lies In Education", is a drug abuse prevention and self-esteem program. Parents volunteer to lead activities with the children in Kindergarten through fourth grade. The Coordinator of Guidance and the Physical Education Department coordinates the program with the children in fifth through seventh grades.
Prospective Parents Open House Held in the gym, this meeting provides information about St. Pius X to prospective parents.
Reconciliation Service This is for all First Communion recipients. A reception follows hosted by the Mothers' Club.
St. Patrick's & St. Joseph's Day Mass & Altar The Kindergarten class coordinates this school Mass honoring St. Joseph and St. Patrick. Kindergarten students' fathers are invited to participate in the Mass. A St. Joseph's Altar is prepared by the cafeteria staff.
SPX Band, Boy & Girl Choirs Christmas Concert In keeping with the holiday spirit, the band and choirs ox SPX perform a Christmas concert in the gym at 2:30 p.m.

SPX Fair T- Shirt Day Students may wear any SPX fair T-shirt to school instead of their uniform shirt. Order forms for the T-shirts are sent home in the students' folders.
SPX Fair Lots of food, games, music and fun for all. Each class performs a musical number on the stage as part of the entertainment. Many volunteers are needed for the booths. Sign-up sheets are sent home in the students' folders and parents are required to work 2 hours per child.
SPX Night at Celebration in the Oaks The SPX band and choirs perform on this night. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the school. A percentage of ticket sales benefit the school.
Spirit Day Students and teachers demonstrate school spirit with a pep-rally. Classes perform cheers in preparation for field day.
Transition Mass The Transition Mass is a ceremony honoring our 7th graders. Teachers pin 7th graders with SPX pins. This is followed by a reception.
Transition Meeting At this Mothers' Club Board Meeting, Committee chairpersons turn over all of their information to the new Committee chairpersons for the upcoming school year. Mothers' Club members may sign up for committees at this meeting.
Uniform/Booksale Day SPX sweatshirts, boy school shirts, and school supplies will be available for purchase. "No Sweat" School supplies (pre-ordered, pre-paid school supplies) are distributed on this day. Information will be available concerning the Mothers' Club, Men's Club and After School Program, interested parents may register at this time.
Used Uniform Donation Day Used uniforms are donated to the Mothers' Club for the Used Uniform Sale.
Used Uniform Sale Day Used uniforms donated by St. Pius X families are available for sale in the Multi-Purpose Room.
Wrapping Paper Fundraiser This fundraiser begins in September when information and catalogues are sent home in the students' folders. The catalogues contain wrapping paper, ribbons, bows, gifts and candy. Order forms are also included to be filled out and returned. Prior to Christmas, orders arrive and are sent home with the students. The Mothers' Club receives 50% of the profits to be used for school improvements.
