Parish School of Religion
The St. Pius X Parish School of Religion provides religious education for children and youth going into 1st-11th grades who attend public or non-Catholic private schools. Continuous enrollment in the Parish School of Religion is required from 1st through 11th grades for all students not attending Catholic School in order for the students to have an ongoing and progressive instruction in Catholic faith. This program is mandatory for students who will celebrate the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation in St. Pius X Parish. Registration is required each year. PSR classes are on Sundays from 9:00 until 10:15AM (1st-7th grades) beginning in the cafeteria; 6:00-7:30PM in the youth center (8th-11th grades).
The 1st-7th grade classes begin with an opening prayer for all students in the cafeteria followed by dismissal to their classes. All students are to be signed out from the teacher in the cafeteria at the end of class. See registration and schedule below:
First Reconciliation and First Communion
St. Pius X celebrates the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in 2nd grade. A two-year preparation program is required before the reception of the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion beginning in 1st grade continuing through 2nd grade. The Archdiocese of New Orleans celebrates the sacrament of Confirmation in eleventh grade. Attendance at a Catholic high school for at least two years prior to the sacrament is required. If not enrolled in a Catholic high school, attendance for at least two years prior to the sacrament at weekly Parish School of Religion (CCD) class is mandatory. RCIA -- Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
RCIA is the process by which non-baptized persons enter into the Catholic Church or baptized persons of other Christian denominations enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. It is a months-long program of catechesis, fellowship, prayer, and ritual that engages the candidates more deeply in faith.
